Alkaline water is water that has a higher pH level than regular water. The pH scale measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is, with 7 being neutral.
How is alkaline water made?
Minerals: Adding minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium to water makes it more alkaline
Electrolysis: Running water over positive and negative electrodes creates alkaline water
Baking soda: Adding a pinch of baking soda to water makes it more alkaline
Alkalizing fruits and vegetables: Adding cucumber slices to water and letting it soak in the fridge makes it more alkaline
Is alkaline water healthy?
There is no evidence that alkaline water prevents or cures cancer, or increases collagen production.
Some studies suggest that alkaline water might help with digestion, bone health, and hydration.
Drinking slightly alkaline water (pH 7.0 to 8.5) is considered safe and shouldn't have any adverse side effects.
Side effects of alkaline water
Hyperkalemia, or high blood potassium levels, is the most concerning side effect observed in human studies related to alkaline water.
